About
My Story: Setting a New Azimuth
Hi, my name is Josh Guritz. I have lived in Colorado for the past 20 years or so but my family is originally from the Spirit Lake area. I recently relocated to Lake Park to be closer to my family and to get back to an area that more closely aligns with how I want to live my life. This community has been very gracious in welcoming me and I anticipate being here for the foreseeable future.
In Colorado I owned a tiny home manufacturing and home renovation company where I constructed tiny homes and remodeled kitchens and bathrooms in big homes. During that time, I fell in love with finish carpentry and was able to display that love in my woodworking shop where I constructed and installed everything from custom mantels and staircase handrail systems to tailored cabinets and associated trim packages.
I understand that there is a need in the Dickinson County area for home remodeling craftsman and I would love the opportunity to help fill those needs. I look forward to working with you!

My specialty is in finish carpentry. I cut my teeth in the carpentry field working in a woodshop that focused on cabinet fabrication, cabinet refacing and custom wood work. I spent a sizeable portion of my time building and installing custom mantels, stair systems, cabinet packages as well as laminate and solid surface countertops. I also have in depth experience installing tile floors and showers as well as LVP flooring.

For the vast majority of the work I do I charge by the task rather than by the hour. This means that I charge by the square or linear foot and item count rather than by the hours spent on a given task.
When I was in the automotive field I heard this referred to as “flat rate pay.” Here’s an example from the automotive point of view: according to labor rate publications a front brake job pays 2 hours of labor. If the technician gets the job done in 3 hours, he/she only gets paid for the 2 hours. The inverse is also true in that if the technician completes the job in 1 hour he/she still gets paid for 2 hours. This incentivizes the technician to be efficient in the work they do and protects the customer from being overcharged because the worker is inefficient or needed an extra cup of coffee on their break.
For my line of work I use a labor rate publication called RSMeans™ Data from a company named Gordian®. They have created a pricing catalog that details job task pricing for all things construction and remodeling. They also provide a location factor table that allows me to provide labor pricing specific to our area. This is how I determine the labor cost for the work I do. My pricing also takes into account material and supply costs as well as a margin factor to ensure that I am able to pay for the fixed expenses of my business which include insurance policies, business property rental, utilities, legal fees and office expenses.
The only time I charge by the hour is when I am tasked with work that does not have a line item in the labor rate publication. In these situations I charge $38.47 per hour, a figure derived from a formula that takes into account fixed expenses, labor expenses and total billable hours in a year.

I do not charge for the project’s initial estimate packet and first round of design revisions. The initial estimate packet includes a formal estimate for the discussed scope of work as well as a floor plan and design renders, when applicable.
After reviewing the initial estimate packet we can meet to go over any alterations you would like to make to the estimate’s scope of work, design and/or materials used for the project so that I can provide you an accurized estimate which takes your product selections into account. After that point I will require a deposit in order to continue with revisions to the project. I do this in order to protect my time and efficiency.
I prefer to work up estimates even for small tasks so that both you and I know what to expect when working together. Estimates for small task lists can usually be ready for your review the day after our initial meeting.

My warranty covers the workmanship and rough materials on any given project for one year after project completion. I do not offer a warranty on finish products such as light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, appliances or electronics but will act as a warranty administrator so that the product’s manufacturer warranty can be used for the product in question.
